ACPW (AirCooled Performance Warehouse) is the sister company to Red-E Motorsports! Red-E is the premier shop in the northern Utah region providing both high performance race and hot street engines, as well as developing heavy duty Transporter engine programs and Fuel Injection solutions for most any aircooled VW application!
Our drive and passion at Red-E Motorsports (and throughout our years of racing and street driving aircooled VW’s) has always been to push durability. Hot street cars that can drive across country, race cars made “street legal” but still able to drive across town for a local car club meet, or loading a VW bus with as much weight as we could fit and driving it through the Rocky Mountains for hundreds of miles just to find all the weak links we could over the years to make these engines perform, AND last.
In the early 2000’s our family made the move back home to Salt Lake City to work the warehouse for Airccooled.Net and later Aircooled Engineering. This allowed me to work under two of the guys I respected the most in the area with VW’s. One encouraged me to think outside the box, to explore other ways of doing things. The other showed what attention to detail and doing it as right at possible the first time. We moved the majority of our house weekly driving 900 miles round trip every week for a few months moving things to storage, loading our bus down as much as possible every trip. Once here we continued work in our apartment to finish building our race engine that would be destined for our street car. We didn’t let being poor keep us from doing what we loved and found every way to do it. We understand that it can be a struggle sometimes to achieve a goal, so with that in mind our goal with our parts site is to pick through all the product out there and only offer parts we trust and use not only on our own cars, but on our customers cars at Red-E Motorsports.
To this day, we at Red-E Motorsports and AirCooled Performance Warehouse are still committed to pushing the limits of what we can do with both Performance and Durability. Our turbo’d street car has dyno’d 450hp on pump gas with only 18psi boost, our asperated street car cranks out 204hp on our dyno on 91 octane and can drive hours at a time without overheating. Our shop truck continues to the be the test mule we need to push limits and keep moving forward toward the progress of more useable power with less problems. We are still a company that hauls our entire vendor booth and extra car hundreds of miles to VW shows to both show what we are capable of, what our knowledge and experience has allowed us to do, and how we can help you feel at ease that anything purchased from ACPW is going to work for you to get the job done.
Our latest endevour is our Karmann Ghia land speed race project. Land speed has shown to be the perfect test bed to find how much performance you can apply and still retain dependability. Our drag car was refitted with a regular “freeway flyer” transaxle and a rear tire change to take the record for the fastest street aircooled Beetle in the world, beating the previous number by over 8mph hitting over 155mph on the short course. The eventual goal of the Ghia is to hit 200mph, ideally still while running pump fuel (E70 from the local pump).
